How the emerging technologies are: communicated, received and discussed with and in society

That science fiction's dystopic visions of emerging technologies can be good for communication between scientists, academics, civilians
Talked about yesterday
today and tomorrow
However...
According to Powell & Colin (2008) “Some scientists are not particularly enthusiastic about engaging with lay citizens (some are quite apprehensive) and few have any experience or training in it” (p. 132).

Communication between science and society needs further examination

Visuals as reference points
“It [book] is about writers and painters and composers who discovered truths about the human mind—real, tangible truths—that science is only now rediscovering. Their imaginations foretold the facts of the future” (Lehrer, 2007, p. ix)
“Science needs art to frame the mystery, but art needs science so that not everything is a mystery. Neither truth alone is our solution, for our reality exists in plural” (Lehrer, 2007, p. xii).
Eternal Sunshine “like all great art works, it does not pursue any moral or social agenda aggressively, instead stumbling over a set of complex issues arising from quite simple premises” (Miah, 2008, p. 3).
Intro to a book on adapting short stories to screen
“if you like to spend your days wondering about the nature of reality and the deceptiveness of time. Or if you’re interested in extrapolating the latest scientific theory in an effort to assuage your cosmic loneliness. Or if you think a lot about the desirability of artificial intelligence and cloning but can’t decide whether it’s a good way to achieve utopia”

Point of reference
Connection to a larger discussion
Science isn’t right it’s an opportunity
Doesn’t take in to consideration outside influences
Would like to look at some of these in further research
