For the first time
in history, we are
preparing our
children for a future
we can not clearly
describe.
Our children are coming to us
from an information experience
that is deeper, richer, & more
personal than anything we can duplicate in most classrooms
Use their information
experience to:
Connect to friends.
Pursue casual interests.
"Geek out."
Peer-based self-directed learning. ("free range learners")

Recommendations:
Respect & pay attention to the kids
Give learners a voice
Hire learners to teach
Seize almost every opportunity to replace books with digital content
Pursue 1:1 carefully, but urgently
Support the infrastructure
Make sure that tech staff work for the teachers
The best thing we can teach our children today, is how to teach themselves
When you visit schools, be happy when you see learning. Be suspicious when you see too much teaching.

The nature of information has changed,
In what it looks like,
What we look at to view it,
Where we go to find it,
How we find it,
What we can do with it, &
How we communicated it.

Education must:
Be more experimental, experiential, and social.
Minimize standardization of content & assessment. ...it is irrelevant.
Promote teachers as role model learners ("master learners").
Stay relevant! ...keep pace!
