The Cell
Prokaryote
Eukaryote
"True Nucelus"
A cell or organism that has a clearly defined nucleus.
A cell structure mainly devoted to processing the proteins synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
The power house of the cell.
Made up of membrane bound organelles. Gives energy that allows movement, division, production of secretory products, and contractions in the cell.
Allows cellular metabolism to take place.
Glycolysis
Krebs Cycle
Electron Transport Chain
Golgi Apparatus
Mitochondria
Cellular Metabolism
Humans
Animals
Glucose is converted to pyruvate.
Pyruvate is converted to carbon dioxide.
Electrons and protons combine with oxygen to make water.
A cell with no true nucleus.
"Before a nucleus."
Plants

Use for activity
Cell Wall
A rigid wall that gives the cell a defined structure.
Plasma Membrane
A membrane that encloses a cell's contents and serves as a semi-porous barrier to the outside environment.
Cytoplasm
Jelly like substance that fills the cell.
Is 80% water and clear in color.
Ribosomes
Produce proteins in the cell.
Endoplasmic Reticulum.
Repsonible for the production of the protein and lipid components of most of the cell's organelles.
Smooth ER
Synthesises lipids and steroids, metabolizes carbohydrates, regulates calcium concentration, detoxifies drugs, attaches receptors on cell membrane proteins, and metabolizes steroids.
Rough ER
Imporant in the synthesis and packaging of proteins. Is coated with ribosomes.
Nucleus
Control center of the cell.
Contains most of the cell's genetic material. It controls gene expression and mediates the replication of DNA during the cell cycle.
Nucleoid
Contains nuclear material without a nuclear membrane and where the genetic material is localized.
Ribonucleic acid (RNA)
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)
Double stranded nucleic acid that contains the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and some viruses.
Single stranded chain consisting of nucleotide units that contain genetic information.
Archaea
Bacteria
