Creative Critical Reflection: Magazine Project

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

How does your product engage with audiences?

My product challenges conventions because it doesn't have a standard look. For example a standard women's health magazine doesn't the same font we do. For our magazine project we used a small amount of fonts. While standard magazines use a lot of different ones. our magazine only had a font for titles then a different font for the actual article, but standard magazines have a different font for every category. Another example is that we wrote magazine on the side of our title. Standard health magazine don't really have that written but if they do it's not written the way we rote ours. This makes our magazines different. Another example s that our magazine doesn't have a lot writing on the front but a typical magazine has a list of what is in the magazine. But my magazine uses conventions because we have both pictures and titles in our magazine. The use of titles and magazines really make the readers want to read the article.

My product engages with the audiences because it is a health magazine. This helps people engage in healthy activities and lifestyles. This magazine is mostly going to appeal people that are involved or are interested in health. The people buying are product because they want an education on health and want to learn more, but people not really interested in health lifestyles and activities are not going to be interested in the magazine.The types of articles in the magazine are workout tips, health supplies and health careers. So the people interested in workouts and learning how to be fit may be appealed. Also the people interested in health supplies may appeal to the magazine so they can see latest gear and supplies and may want to go to the store and buy it. The people interested in health careers may appeal to the magazine because we get exclusive interviews from people that work in the health industry and they tell us what the job takes and why they like their job.

The production skills that I developed throughout this project was learning how to ask questions and make the interview easy. When I did the interview for my magazine project with a nurse practitioner I learned how to ask certain questions and make the questions approachable. During the interview asking the questions was fairly easy and when the nurse was answering the questions she seemed to know the answer to every question.This made the interview a lot easier for both sides. Another production skill I learned doing this project was learning how to use Microsoft publisher. At first using publisher was a little hard because i didn't know how to use it because I was used to doing thing on Microsoft word. But by doing the project I learned how to add text boxes and how to screen shot a picture of the project. Overall learning these skills during my project helped me understand and learn new things.

How would it be distributed as a real media text?

How does it represent social groups or issues?

My product would be distributed as a real media text because we would sell our product in grocery stores. By selling it in a grocery more people would see our magazine and would be open to more groups of people rather than just health people. For example if we sold our magazine at a grocery store someone may see the magazine and see that we have workout tips and health interviews and it could appeal to that person who necessarily isn't going to go to a gym to workout and doctors office to ask questions about health. Another place I would sell my product is a hospital. By selling my magazine at a hospital people already interested in health work there so people in that industry would appeal to the magazine because it is what they do for a living. The last place I would distribute my magazine is a health clinic. Selling in a health clinic could become a big deal because patients that need to get healthy go in and out, and by the patients seeing the magazine they may want to buy the magazine to get tips on getting healthy and fit. Overall distributing my magazine would be the same as a real media text because generally magazines are sold in places that appeal it's certain audience and most are sold in grocery stores where everyone goes to shop. I'm gong to market my magazine by having ads on health websites like WebMD and health finder. This is gong to help create more revenue to the magazine. Lastly I'm going to create a website to help sell and advertise my magazine by posting the latest health tips and news.

I integrated technologies in this project by using Microsoft publisher and using the internet for research. When first starting my project I didn't really know what kind of layout I wanted for my magazine so I used to the internet to look up other magazine styles. By using the internet it really helped me understand what kind of magazine I wanted to do and I chose to do a health magazine. With choosing to do a health magazine I had to use the internet to look up the kind of pictures and magazine fonts used in a health magazine. Also during this project I used Microsoft publisher. Microsoft publisher helped a lot when creating my magazine, and it was really easy to use once I understood how to do things. Using Microsoft publisher I learned how to take a screen shot of the project and post that picture onto my blog. Overall integrating these technologies in my project helped make the process of creating my magazine easier. Also for taking the pictures for my magazine I used an IPhone 6 which was very simple and easy.

My magazine project represents social groups or issues because our magazine is a health magazine. This means that people interested in health are going to read the magazine. For example my magazine I interviewed a nurse practitioner. This article can help people that want to become a nurse or are interested in the field. What people can get out of reading my article is that they can know what job skills it takes and also what school requirements you have to do to get a job like that. Also in the article it describes the challenges that nurses go through which can help another health care person relate to the stories. But the magazine also has health tip and workouts which can help someone that want to become healthy and stay in shape. Overall this my magazine focuses on health and it opened up to health tips and workouts.
