With the economic decline and recent catastrophic loss of 15,000 Arts journalism positions,
the professional world is looking for innovative and engaging models of new journalism
Additionally, reporters blog to keep their skills and passion alive: Technorati lists 185,000 “arts blogs” with just over 5,000 categorized as “arts criticism”
ManhattanArts.com fulfills the present need for visual, interactive, and new media-based journalism. In short,
it’s a conglomeration of journalism, tourism, and industry-related classified information specifically targeted
toward Arts practitioners.
ManhattansArts.com is an aggregator and original content producer of Arts journalism within the cultural sphere of Manhattan, New York. Namely, the content covers all forms of music, theater, dance, visual art and architecture, food and fashion within the five borrows. ManhattanArt.com differs from the leading journalism outlets in it’s content’s medium, design, and delivery. (conglomeration of News, Tourism, Education, and Social Networking...
ManhattanArt.org is a profit-based site that seeks advertisement and funding. Targeted consumers include Arts venues (theaters, music halls, museums, restaurants), travel/tourism/relocation (airlines, hotels, moving supplies), suppliers of industry goods (paints, clothing, music), and lastly, educational institutions (universities, summer intensives, etc).
A venture of this enterprise would need a million dollar grant to get started, with additional funds coming from local and industry investors – such as theatrical producers. Another option would be a professional exchange of goods: Fortune pays for FLYP Media’s production costs and in exchange FLYP produces their online interactive ads. The third option would be to start the venture in much smaller terms – with less bells and whistles – and establish an audience from a primitive state. This would cut both the staff and all other costs/deliverables in half.
Studio Options include:•Two floor rental space (area must have tall ceilings, all lightening equipment must be purchased)•Rent a studio space (outsource lightening equipment crew with the venue)Other Options include:•Small rocketboom-style news rundown with a minimalist set•Traveling talk show: filmed non-linearly and without an audience; although costs would considerably drop – rent, crew, equipment. Transportation via car or taxi would be required.
QuEstiOns...?
ManhattanArt.com is primarily an online broadcast-driven channel for Arts Journalism
that features daily news reports, a talk show, roundtable discussion forums with artists,
mini documentaries and man-on-the-Street features.
The map would be exportable to mobile devices and incorporate a GPS component to direct
the user to their venue of choice.

A complete weekly calendar of events would be listed below the map according to date.
When a user clicked on the events listed on the calendar, icons for the chosen events would
appear on the map. If the user clicked on the icons, information, pictures, and/or articles would
pop up regarding the artist, venue, and ticket information. The user could select or deselect events by choice.
The third tier of ManhattanArt.com includes a video page of user-contributed content from the various venues: theatrical promos, music videos, artist photo slide shows, and mobile uploads.

Additionally the section will include long-format documentaries, and copyright cleared live/taped productions. Futuristically, I’d like the American Theater Wing and the Lincoln Center library to open their performance archives to the site.
It will include housing, employment, and materials selling (music, art, supplies, etc).
