Grizzly Bear Adaptations Shoulder Hump made of fat and muscle helps the grizzly dig and strike powerfully with his paws Long Claws not retractable (their claws are always out) used for digging and for damaging prey Snout (Nose) very sensitive uses it to avoid other animals and search for food can smell food several kilometers away Ears Eyes Front Legs Thick Fur and Fat Layer excellent sense of hearing listens for prey or reasons to retreat, like from humans doesn't have great eyesight hunts at dusk and dawn when eyesight isn't useful incredibly strong able to break the necks of large prey with one powerful blow insulates against the extreme cold Rear Legs will stand on their back two legs to test the wind for what they can smell or hear people misinterpret this for an attack ... but the most important adaptation probably is ... the ability to store large amounts of fat and sleep for long periods of time in the Winter when there is a shortage of food
