World Pollution is getting out of hand.
World Pollution is getting out of hand...
Pollution levels are rising to
egregious levels in three countries
in paticular.
These countries are...
According to the World Bank, 16 of the world’s 20 cities with the worst air are in China.
The air quality of Beijing is 16 times worse than New York City.
Only one percent of the China’s 560 million city dwellers breath air considered safe by European Union standards according to a World Bank study
8 of 10 Chinese coastal cities discharge excessive amounts of sewage and pollutants into the sea, often near coastal resorts and sea farming areas.
About one third of the industrial waste water and more than 90 percent of household sewage in China is released into rivers and lakes without being treated.
About 11.7 million pounds of organic pollutants are emitted into Chinese waters every day, compared to 5.5 in the United States, 3.4 in Japan, 2.3 in Germany, 3.2 in India, and 0.6 in South Africa.

The World Bank reluctantly censored a report revealing that 750,000 people died prematurely every year in China from pollution-related disease because Beijing officials feared it would provoke "social unrest".
Approximately 1 billion litres of raw, untreated sewage are dumped in the Ganges on a daily basis. The amount has more than doubled in the last 20 years and experts predict another 100% increase in the following 20 years.

The rapid explosion of India's population in the last 25 years coupled with lax regulations on industry has put a huge strain on the river.

Thousands of bodies are cremated on the banks of the river yearly with many being released into the river with hopes that their souls may have a direct path to heaven.

Hundreds Unwanted or 'illegitimate' babies, cattle and other animal carcases are also dumped in the Ganges again with religious significance

The levels of Coliform bacteria is over 2800 times the level considered safe by the W.H.O (world health organisation).
Up to 400 million people use the Ganges river basin each year. The pollution in this river is endangering these peoples lives.
40% of America’s rivers and 46% of America’s lakes are too polluted for fishing, swimming, or aquatic life.
Each year, U.S. factories spew 3 million tons of toxic chemicals into the air, land, and water.
According to the US-EPA, emissions from power plants contribute to over 2,800 lung cancer deaths and 38,200 heart attacks annually in the US.
76.5 million Americans live in areas where they are exposed to unhealthy short-term levels of particle pollution. Exposure to particle pollution has been linked to increases in heart attacks, strokes, and emergency-room visits for asthma and cardiovascular disease.
84 percent of the energy produced in the USA is provided by fossil fuels (coal, oil). When fossil fuels are burned to make energy they contribute to smog, acid rain and global climate change.
The BP Oil Spill is the biggest in American history, with between 17 and 39 million gallons spilled in the Gulf of Mexico.
Over 1,000 animals have been reported dead, including many already on the endangered species list. Of the animals affected by the spill that are still alive only about 6% have been reported cleaned, but many biologists and other scientists predict they will die too.
Every year 84,000 Americans die from pollution related illnesses.
