What is a generalization? Making Generalizations A generalization is a broad
statement or rule that applies
to many examples. You can make generalizations by
noticing common elements in infor-
mation you read as well as using
what you already know about a topic. Generalizations can be helpful in
organizing information. However,
to be useful, generalizations must be
accurate in all situations they describe. Information Youth can work three hours
on school days, eight hours on
non-school days. + Information School days are
Monday through Friday. = Generalization Youth can work longer
hours on weekends.
