My name is Bert Rijken. Born in the winter of 1982.
I live in Bree for about 27 years of my life. (Well, maybe less if you're 
counting the many years I lived in Diepenbeek / Hasselt as a student)
These days I reside in Leuven, sometimes going home to Bree. 
(Just to keep the parents updated about my life.)

And that's what I'm doing right now with 
this presentation. Giving you all an update
on who I am, what I've done in my life, what

My studies
You're 18, you look for something to study, but have no idea what you want

So I started at the University in Diepenbeek. (LUC in those days) and ended 
in Hasselt with two diplomas in my hands.

a vacation for youngsters who 
are shy, blush very fast, ... and 
made it into the press.

Everything that needed to be done, 
except the dancing itself.

Applied Informatics : Internship
I did my internship in 2005 @ Perfect Planning. 
A company mainly making the roadmaps we use(d)
before google maps, mappy and GPS.

We created a website for booking last minute journeys
online. I know, outdated by now, but back then, it was 
not so common yet... I think ... 
We used PHP, html, css and JS.

The website is no longer working, but if you want, I can
always send you the report with code and screenshots.
Commercial Communication : Internship

I did my intern for communication in Leuven, at Indigov.
I got there because of the combination of IT and Communication. (With thanks to one of my teachers)

Sister company iVOX does online surveys as a research facilitator and Indigov is specialised in eGovernment, mainly working for the government. Usability checks, focusgroups on websites, newsletters, ...

Attending focusgroups, doing interviews with respondents, putting surveys online, creating a (basic) online survey tool, ... All things I got to work on during my internship.

At the end of my internship, I started working here.

2005 : Student job @ Morganite Luxemburg
- Projects from A to Z: from getting the quote to delivering the results to the client. Programming the survey in Socratos (http://www.socratos.nl), using SPSS to deliver the results (raw table, report with detailed results, ...)
- IT development : Our own basic Online Survey System, eGov Monitor online tool, solve technical issues in the network as well as find new ways to use Socratos and other smaller IT related projects 
- Socratos trainings : Giving trainings to companies using Socratos
Research on the processes in a Carbon company to optimize them for better results and higher performance.

Why did I create this presentation?
I'm currently looking for a job where I can put all my energy in, learn from experts with shared interests, expand my knowledge, give my ideas a nest to grow in, help other ideas get bigger and better, ...

The perfect job combines my two studies. The technical insight and skills on how the online world works or should work. The commercial insight in ways to provide that technology for users so they can interact with it in a fluent way, ways that keep them come back.
