My Psychology Research
It's a little complicated, but maybe Prezi will make it easier to understand.
First of all, there are 5 different types of cheating.
Competitive
School
Self
Relationship
Social Compacts
Cheating in a sport or a game
Cheating in a task at work
Cheating on a budget
Cheating on a diet
Cheating on a spouse or romantic partner
Cheating on a test
Copying homework
Littering
Driving in the HOV lane inappropriately
Cutting in line
Sneaking food into the movie theatre
Not paying for a meal at a restaurant
Sneaking into an event without the proper ticket
In relation to these different types of cheating, we looked at different personality traits.
Sensation-Seeking
Perspective-Taking
Shame
Impulsivity
To actively pursue exciting experiences
To consider another point of view
Guilt
Fear of public blame or regret
Personal regret for a wrongdoing
Easily swayed by a compelling urge
We found that...
Impulsivity is the HIGHEST predictor of cheating in all the different categories.
Sensation-seeking was the second strongest predictor.
What does this mean?!
It means that the more impulsive you are and the more you take part in risky activities for the thrill of it, the more likely you are to cheat in all the different categories.
Perspective-taking was somewhat predictive of cheating.
Surprisingly, shame & guilt did not at all play a part in the personality of those people who cheat.
