Fear is one of the most primal of human emotions. The biological mechanisms that produce fear are buried deep within a portion of our brain called the amygdale Unfortunatelt this isn't the first time in history gyas have been targeted and discriminated against. It is this sense of commitment, of love, that leads a couple to decide to marry. Because society has long seen homosexual relations as abnormal, there has never been a way for these couples to enjoy the benefits of marriage. As attitudes about homosexuality have changed, homosexuals have become more bold in their assertion of their rights. Since traditional couples can marry, the argument is that homosexual couples should also be able to marry. Fear is often the source of...and most common tool used in, discrimination. Many people through out history have been the target of fear based discrimination The benefits of marriage to society, apart from any religious concern or duty, include the following: Procreation Known, or at least presumed, paternity Child and spousal support Stability in family life Survivor's rights For years the LGBT community has been ostracized tormented and discriminated against due to their sexual prefrence. However not everybody feels this way... peaceful demonstrators protest against Prop 8 Same-sex couples can feel the same level of personal commitment that traditional couples feel. e·qual·i·ty [ih-kwol-i-tee] –noun, plural -ties. 1. the state or quality of being equal; correspondence in quantity, degree, value, rank, or ability. . ~with every problem there is a solution In 1969 police raided Stonewall Inn, a hotspot for the gay community, which resuted in riots due to the harsh nature of the raid. Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ---Dr. Seuss Section 7.5 of the Declaration of Rights, to the California Constitution, which provides that "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California Proposition 8 (or the California Marriage Protection Act): What we need is: Fear is a distressing negative emotion induced by a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. In short, fear is the ability to recognize danger and flee from it or confront it. Courage is not the lack of fear but the ability to face it." ---- Lt. John B. Putnam Jr. (1921-1944) The amygdala is the part of the brain that recognizes fear. It's only a small part of the brain though...so why so much fear? People fear what the don't understand. And out of fear they hate and terrorize, and discriminate. Back then it was illegal to be gay. The LGBT community fought against it and created the Gay Liberation Front. Harvey Milk, a well known gay activist in Castro Street was a prodominant leadrer. Unfortunately he was murdered due to his active campagin. Now in the present gays are fighting for their right of marriage. A New Way to Hate Prop 8 Comercial Say No to Prop 8 But some people want to take rights away from the constitution. Restricting equal oppertunities for gays. After years of hate teens that are afaraid of coming out or being gay are starting to kill themseleves because they believe they will never be accepted. So people keep fighting for gay rights, spreading love and equality, not hate. Hoping for a better tomorrow. There needs to be more love, more acceptence and a greater willing to learn to abolish all this fear. It is the only way to live.
