The major root of a writer's work is the work's setting. These maps illustrate my setting, using different types of media and visual rhetoric.
I chose an image of graffiti as inspiration for my font and color palette. Social metaphors for graffiti including hip-hop, counter-culture, minority, and fighting against oppression are all seen in the visual rhetoric of the images.
New media allows individual users to exchange information to mass audiences. Traditional media was mostly concentrated into a limited number of huge groups. I was able to use Twitter and the IAOC blogging site to write about some of these subjects tagged in the Wordle. The color palette makes an interesting contrast; more frequently used tags are lighter against the dark background making them stand out much more in the Twitter Wordle.
When people are asked to say something about who they are, most are likely to begin with what their job is. Using Bowker's theories, we can conclude that many people classify who they are by what they do for a living. This is a map of my work schedule, it illustrates who I am at certain times during certain days of the week.
When we compare the TweetCharts with my work schedule, we see I do most of my Tweeting at work.
