How well do you present yourself?
“Citadel graduates [will be] capable of both
critical and creative thinking, have
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS,
[and will be able to] apply abstract concepts to concrete situations”
"Take risks! If you win, you will be happy. If you lose, you will be wise."
Can you take an issue and come to a workable and efficient solution?
Can you think of logical approaches to problems?
Can you sort through the pros and cons of different ideas?
Questions you are likely to be asked -
at some point in an interview -that seem like "softball" questions.
They want to know if you can SOLVE PROBLEMS


1. "Tell me about a time when something didn't go well. Why did it not go well? What was your part in the problem and/or solution?"

2. "Describe a time when you had difficulty communicating your thoughts clearly to an individual or group."

3. "Tell me about a time you had a disagreement with a student, a supervisor, or professor. What was it about? How was it resolved?"

4. "Tell me about a situation in which you had to work with several people to achieve a common goal."
WHAT DO HIRING MANAGERS REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHEN THEY ASK CERTAIN INTERVIEW QUESTIONS?
1. "Tell me about a time you
solved a difficult problem."

2. "Describe the most difficult decision you've made in the last 6 months."

3 . "Tell me about a time you took initiative to do something that needed to be done, (even though it wasn't really your responsibility)."

What do you know about us?
When the interviewer says "tell me about yourself," what she is really doing is checking to see if you're articulate and professional. The way you answer is as important as the things you say.

1. Keep your game face on; don't get too personal.
2. Give them the facts, not your life story.
3. Do your homework, know what they are looking for and design your answer accordingly.
4 .Ask questions and generate conversation. It's a two-way street.
Make a good 1st (and lasting) impression.

1. Clean up your Facebook page and online image.

2. Have an ERROR FREE resume ready.

3. Practice, Practice, Practice Interview (not just the night before).

4. Research! Know who is interviewing you and about the job.

5. Be 10 to 15 minutes early on the day of the interview.

6. Leave your phone in the car!

7. Be polite and professional to everyone you see. You are being evaluated at all times.

8. Have prepared, INTELLIGENT questions to ask your interviewer.

9. ASK about the followup process and when you'll hear from them.

10. Follow up with a personal letter & email to the interviewer.
Focus on the position for which you are interviewing. What are your strengths that will help you in the role?

Do not go on a tangent about something completely irrelevant to this job opening.

Think of actual "stories" (STAR technique) of accomplishments that are very similar to what this job requires.
Never ask - "What does your company do?"

Believe it or not, hiring managers say they get asked this question all the time. Before you go into your job interview, research what the company, institution or position is all about.

Then, come up with some specific ways you can help it do whatever it does better.

Most interviews are not intended to be tricky or scary. Most interviewees are hoping and praying YOU are the right candidate for the job.
Introductory interviews are just the tip of the iceberg-
they mean way more than what is on the surface!

Have you worked with someone you didn't like? If so, how did you handle it?

Give me an example of a time when you took the time to share a fellow coworker's achievements with others?

Tell me about a time that you didn't work well with a supervisor. What was the outcome and how would you have changed the outcome?

Tell me about a time that you misjudged a person.
