Real World Examples of Technologies That Empower Learning

Alex Ragone - ERB 84th Annual Conference »

generative use of technology in good educational practice, especially for emerging leaders. How can the members of our cohort maximize their use of technology to make a difference in their current roles and in future roles? What's worth exploring, what's not?
Ideas:

Communication
Know where your data is
What do students need?
Mobile?
Who is in your network?
How to keep up?
Need for down time.
Lead by example...
Rather than go through each of the ideas he stresses, I’ll steal them outright:

Passion, heart and soul. Believe in what you are speaking about. Let that show.
Tell me stories. I like them, and it allows me to relate to you as a person.
Convince me.
Make it visual. Not clip art. Use visuals to communicate, not to decorate.
Oh, and use some words. But no bullet lists. And avoid the global killer of using Comic Sans…
Limit yourself. One Hour = 45 slides…or maybe just 10.
I came to hear you. So, why exactly are you up on the stage and have the big picture in the program?
Practice. I’ll know if you didn’t.
Perform. Have some fun up there. Make me want to check my email later.
Share your ideas.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
Feel like the world is moving so quickly that you can’t keep up? Are Twitter, Facebook, Google Apps, Blogs and Wikis just words that don’t mean anything? In this presentation, I will demonstrate how to use numerous interactive technologies to enhance learning and empower students. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to use Web 2.0 tools to engage in sustained professional growth and development.
