Here's some background... Juntos started as something small... now in 30 communities 3 years ago Goal 1: Collect data within each objective to inform intended JITP outcomes Accumulate data over time across state sites to measure long-term effectiveness Goal 2: Provide JITP partners with data to inform program activities and reporting needs Evaluative Objectives Pronounced "Who-n-tos" We Began witn Newsletters We need something from you.... Your Commitment National evaluation is only as good as its partners. We need you! What can you do? Commit to the 12-month evaluation in your state Join the JITP evaluation committee to continue the development of this resource We started in Moore county with one group of parents and youth... A six week program that... Responds to the need to unify schools, families and community efforts to prevent school dropout Promotes students access to higher education and parental involvement. What is Juntos? in partnership with shoools and community organizations 41% of all H.S. Latinos in NC did not graduate in 4 years in 2009 Parental involvement has consistently been shown to prevent academic failure Especially among Latino youth One father remarked "We all want our kids to succeed in school. Families just need to know the path to get there.” After the 6-week program: Mentoring, success coaching, and afterschool clubs How does it work? For English or Spanish-speaking parents and their teens in the 8th -12th grades Starts with a 2½ hour family workshop series of 6 sessions once a week Involves college students as tutors, speakers, and mentors Juntos requires a TEAM effort Juntos shows that path A Brief Introduction to Juntos Program Session 1: Making Education a Family Goal Session 2: Family and School Communication Session 3: Requirements for Graduation and More Session 4: How to Finance Higher Education Session 5: Applying for College and More Session 6: Creating a Plan of Action Why be involved with Juntos?
