5. Coordinate policies and leverage investment.
6. Value communities and neighborhoods.
New York, Maryland, and California
Update CWSRF selection criteria to include principles of smart growth, asset management, and green infrastructure.
In New York, the Environmental Finance Center is teaming with the Environmental Facilities Corporation to provide advice on new criteria.

YOUR PARTICIPATION IS CRITICAL!
Brownfield Pilot Projects
$130 million for the Urban Circulator Program, aimed at funding streetcar, trolley, circulator, or other local transit and mobility projects.
$150 million for the Bus Livability Program, funding bus projects to improve job access and neighborhood redevelopment.
All projects require a 20% local cost match.
Proposals were due February 8th, but more applications may be accepted in the future.
Transportation funds are also earmarked by congress. Contact your representative!
Focused on the redevelopment of brownfield sites near public transportation services. 5 projects were selected:
Boston, MA: Creation of a transit-oriented development village, with minimal displacement of current residents.
Iowa City, IA: Creation of a walkable community near a light rail stop, including residential, retail, and office space.
Denver, CO: Technical assistance, including design of green buildings, community gardens, and stormwater BMPs.
Indianapolis, IN: Green infrastructure, urban agriculture, affordable housing, and new commercial development on a former railyard site.
National City, CA: Creation and implementation of a sustainability plan and financial strategy for a 14-acre site.
• In the comment period until March 10th.
• $100 million will be made available, with at least $25 million for small metropolitan and rural areas, which are defined as having populations of less than 500,000.
Three funding areas are being considered:
1) Support for the preparation of Regional Sustainable
Development Plans;
2) Support for the creation of execution strategies for
regions with existing development plans;
3) Project funding for communities or regions with
existing development and execution plans.

Smart Growth Implementation Assistance
3 to 4 communities will receive approximately $70,000 each in contractor support.
NOT A GRANT... EPA will provide a team of experts in disciplines determined by the community's needs.
The EPA team will study the context of the project, meet with community stakeholders, and create a detailed report.
Topics of interest for this year's solicitation include:
- Climate change mitigation and adaptation
- Infrastructure investments, e.g. streets, sewer/water, etc.
- Rural transportation solutions
- Many more...
