(1) The Lecture or broadcast model:
one "author" many "readers".
(3) Readers come to rely on the printing press owners filtering mediocre content and publishing excellent content.
(4) Among other things, this leads to the title "published author" being a sign of expertise.
The read/write web turns things upside-down.
New technologies facilitate two-way conversations, in ways print was unable to.
Key features of print technology:
Print is:
expensive
difficult to produce
rare & valuable
Key features of read/write culture
Making information public is:
cheap (costs are trivial)
simple to produce
means are nearly ubiquitous
Filter, then publish.
(2) Press owners have a need to filter content built into the economic model of their industry.

Your work will be more efficient if you turn your narrowed topic into a goal-driven research question. A research question asks, in a fairly specific way, what you want your research to answer.
What knowledge do you already have on your
topic? Do you need to do general research, Web surfing,
and talking with others to narrow the topic? Or do you
have a specific research question in mind and feel that
you're ready to get started?
