In New York, an all-girls high school has told students to delete their Facebook accounts and pay a fine or be expelled. Facebook and Senators Say Requiring Passwords Could Be Illegal There is a new trend in the job market: Employers are requiring job candidates to give them their Facebook passwords as part of the interview process. It is not uncommon for employers and schools to review online profiles to verify that there are no unscrupulous behavior or tendencies displayed. But now, they have upped the ante and are requiring full access to these accounts. Shockingly, some of the biggest culprits making these requirements are government offices. Students Create Fake Online Profiles to Bully Peers EDUCATION WEEK - Two teenage girls were arrested in Florida and charged with cyberstalking after creating a fake Facebook page impersonating another student and using it to bully her. Students at an Indianapolis high school set up false Twitter accounts for their principal and tweeted offensive comments before the account was shut down. Schools should exercise caution on social media DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Social media could be a positive force in education.
But as we have seen, social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter and chat programs have also led schoolchildren across the nation -- and even staffers -- to make ill-considered statements and post questionable photographs. Adults have used social media to victimize children. And of course there is "cyberbullying," an issue that keeps school officials busy everywhere.
