Why prevention is the key to public health Young people and risky behaviour As children grow up the choices they make can have long-lasting impacts Drinking Smoking Drug use Sexual health Crime and anti-social behaviour Disengagement from school and get more independence These issues are all inter-related Some young people take few risks with their health and wellbeing.
For others it is a phase they grow out of.
But some do significant harm to themselves and others. Taking action here Or even here is a lot cheaper than tackling problems at this stage How can we make a difference? School Family Youth work Health and social services Dislike of school and missing school are also strongly linked to risk of young motherhood Young people who drink regularly, smoke and/or take illegal drugs have a higher risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour and crime Drinking alcohol is linked to risky sexual behaviour.
