Jesus, an Upstander, and Me By: Annamae Grande GSGC - Final Block 6 Jesus and his teachings of the Reign of God (Reign of God, 10/3/08) The meaning of Reign of God was to do with time and not a place. Most people think that the Kingdom of God is a physical place; however, it is not currently present but is in process to be in our hearts. The Reign of God is important to all of us because Jesus explained that it consists of peace, joy, freedom, and love. He taught that the social order was based on our unconditional love for one another. Our thoughts are put into confusion as we think that the Reign of God is physical. It can be, however, it will not be easy to describe. Reign of God may be something you see in your own perspective, and maybe imaginably put in your own words/pictures. Upstanders vs. Media + Culture Case Studies (Beyond Killing Us Softly: Visual Messages, 4/22/09) (Media: The Consequence of Messages, 4/24/09) Upstanders are those who set forth and speak their minds about how they feel on a situation. For many, it is hard to approach conflict with media and culture influences. Culture and media both represent society and how many follow what they see on T.V. rather than reality. Why? Because advertisements persuade every one of us to become the “better person” society benefits for. Women are somehow the most media influenced in current society. Media only recognizes one certain appearance rather than natural beauty we all have in ourselves. It is importantly regular for upstander who understands media influence to do be against it. Media can influence in good ways or bad ways and what we watch can make us the person we choose to be. This clip is from the documentary called Beyond Killing Us Softly: Advertising’s Image of Women. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FpyGwP3yzE It is very similar to what we have watched in class, and I made a connection with this and upstander because many do teach us the way we should treat ourselves and others – this as an example. Me and My Morals (Christian Morality, 1/9/09) (Understanding Morality, 2/13/09) Morality is a set of values and principles that guide our choices that then determines what type of person we become. According to my Christian Morality notes, everyone has morality and each individual’s morality changes from one stage of life to another. Morality having to do with the way we live our life is our daily decision making. Morality having to do with the way we live our life is our daily decision making. Having sets of morals is important because it shapes who you are and it all depends on who you want to be. When we make a decision, it all relates to our identity. Identity is similar to morality because it helps me become who I personally am and who I personally want to be. Morals consist of values, conscience, belief, and honesty that build future journeys. Dedication towards education and after school activities, I am proud to say that I am glad to be who I am.
