Lucia's day is celebrated on the 13th of December. It's celebrated for Saint Lucia who was born in 283 and died in 304. She was Italian and a martyr. In our school we had a Lucia choir. There were girls who sang a traditional Lucia song called "Santa Lucia". They wore white robes with red belts. They were also holding candles. There was one "Lucia maid" who had a candle crown on her head. The meaning of the Lucia's day is to bring light to dark winter. Lucia's day is also celebrated in Sweden.
Our school's second graders went to see some elderly people to our local old people's home.
The second graders had made some Christmas cards for the old people. Some of the elders started to cry since they were so happy. They sang for the old people. The whole thing lasted for about two hours.
We arranged a competition about energy saving. First we put the posters on the walls of the school canteen and then we put numbers on them so that everyone would know which one to vote. After a week, when the students of our school had voted, we counted the votes and announced the winner. The winner was grade 2C with a poster titled "Eco or Öky? (=over consumption)"(see the picture below).
We made an Advent Calendar with Oona, where every hatch has its own ecological Christmas gift idea. We had only those dates on the hatches that were schooldays.
We did a morning assembly about our energy saving week and what we were going to do.

Merry Christmas to
our Nordplus partners!
Our students donated their old toys, books and clothes to the Red Cross. They wrapped the gifts and wrote on top of them what's inside them. There were a lot of gifts; hopefully they will make someone happy this Christmas.
