Adopt a Health Center campaign

What will we do? Welcome to the Campaign! What is a health center? October 2010-May 2011 Together, we as FACE AIDS chapters can fund the capacitation of Nyamirama health center. Join the campaign. Join the movement. With your help, FACE AIDS will raise $185,000 to capacitate Nyamirama Health Center and strengthen the movement for global health equity. Our campaign runs from October 2011 until May 2012. Each chapter will set, pledge, and meet a fundraising goal. Chapter members will advance their knowledge of global health through monthly educational themes that correspond to a budget area of the health center capacitation process. Where is Nyamirama? In Rwanda, a health center is the first unit of response in the health care system. It is the first stop of sick patients, the place where pregnant women receive check-ups and deliver their babies, and the base for social workers who know intimately the most vulnerable families in the community and coordinate social and economic support. Nyamirama Health Center Nyamirama is located in the Kayonza district in eastern Rwanda. It serves a community of over 25,000 people, yet consists of only two small buildings. It is right off of a main highway that runs from Rwanda's capital to the border of Tanzania. What is the impact? Capacitating the Nyamirama health center is more than the line-item budget that provides for renovation, expansion, and the necessary supplies, medicines, and personnel to provide care. For the community of Nyamirama, this health center is the crucial first step in fulfilling an individual's right to health. In 2008, After Partners In Health and the Ministry of Health began implementing the systems strengthening program in Burera district, malnutrition and child mortality rates plummeted.
