A Christmas Carol Characters: Scrooge: Mean, Greedy, Hates Christmas, Selfish At the beginning: His favorite phrase: BAH HUMBUG Fred: Scrooge's Nephew Cheery, jolly, loves Christmas Fred invited his Uncle Scrooge to Christmas Dinner Scrooge reacted negatively toward his nephew Bob Cratchit asked for Christmas off Scrooge would not give Cratchit extra coal, and was reluctant to pay him for Christmas worked for Scrooge Scrooge would not give to the poor, even at Christmas Jacob Marley Scrooge's partner in business died 7 years ago gave Scrooge his house when he died appeared to Scrooge as a ghost on Christmas Eve Description of Marley as a Ghost Marley was carrying an extremely long and HEAVY chain behind him that rattled as he walked His jaw was tied up with a bandage that when removed cause his jaw to drop to the ground What Marley told Scrooge: Scrooge's chain was just as long as his 7 years ago Scrooge had a chance to change his fate Marley told Scrooge that he would be visited by 3 Spirits Scrooge believed in Marley but was unsure if he believed what Marley said about the 3 visitors Ghost of Christmas Past First of the 3 Spirits showed up when the clock struck ONE He pulled the curtain back from Scrooge's bed Description of the first spirit: He had a child-like body with the face of a wise man Lessons for Scrooge: He showed Scrooge 5 scenes of his past Christmases! First Christmas Scene: Scrooge was a young boy He was at a boarding school All the other boys went home for Christmas, but he was left at the school alone As Scrooge watched this first scene, he remembered how sad and lonely he was that Christmas, and a tear fell from his eyes Second Christmas Scene from the Past Same school yard, but Scrooge is now older Scrooge again is alone, but during this scene, his sister comes to him. They embrace and the young Scrooge is overjoyed to see his sister. His sister excitingly tells him that he can come home this year for Christmas and for good. She mentions their father has had a change in heart and will welcome him back home As Scrooge views this second scene, he fondly remembers his sister, and smiles. Third Scene of Christmas Past: During this scene, Scrooge is at his first job His boss's name is Mr. Feziwig Mr. Feziwig Fair-minded, kind, honest good business man Enjoyed Christmas Mr. Feziwig told his employees (one was Scrooge)t to quit work early on Christmas Eve and he turned the office into a place of a Christmas Party The apprentice Scrooge enjoyed the Christmas festivities The entire community was invited As Scrooge watched this Christmas party, he remembered how joyous the holidays were with Feziwig. He even joined the party as if he were one of the guests instead of an onlooker. The Fourth Scene of Christmas Past Scrooge is seen with his girlfriend. she is crying as she breaks up with him She describes a change she has seen in Scrooge as he has become a successful business man of wealth Scrooge, who was once an enjoyable Scrooge, who was once an enjoyable person, has turned into someone who only cares about money. While watching the fourth scene, Scrooge realized how much he loved his girlfriend. He felt regret for choosing money over love. Fifth scene of Christmas Past Setting: His old girlfriend's home The girlfirend's name is Belle She she is now married with children of her own Her husband came home with Christmas presents and announced to his wife, "Belle, I saw an old friend of yours this afternoon." He made her guess, and she guessed, "Mr. Scrooge?" She had guessed correctly! Her husband described Scrooge as being very ALONE in his office while his partner, Jacob Marley, laid on his death bed Scrooge's reaction as he watched this fifth and final scene from his past: He was very disturbed and asked the Spirit to "Remove me from this place" and "Haunt me no more" Scrooge was so upset he struggled with the Spirit and placed the Spirit's cap over his head to extiguish the flame. Once the flame was extiguished, Scrooge found himself back in his room. He fell into a heavy sleep. The Ghost of Christmas Present Appeared to Scrooge when the clock struck 2 Scrooge was awakened by a light coming in from under his door
