Some things show that the 
Reign of God is here, and we 
must work off those to 
completely obtain the Reign
of God.
The Reign of God
is not a place, but

Case Study
Death Penalty 3/9/09
The Death Penalty is 
a very serious and important issue today.
It is a punishment
 for harsh crimes 
 and used to 
condemn criminals.

Reasons to support the Death Penalty:
-Criminals no longer have a chance of escaping their punishment
-The families of victims receive               closure
-Justice is better served
Reasons to oppose the Death Penalty:
-It moves towards the idea of "an eye for an eye", which prevents civilization from advancing
-It sends the wrong message to society: in order to punish someone who killed, they must be killed
This case study can be related
to forgiveness because, as shown 
in the movie Dead Man Walking, 
forgiveness was key to Matthew 
Poncelet receiving his peace of mind before he was executed.

Forgiveness means seeking
reconciliation and restoration.  
Jesus wants us to forgive
all people.
Forgiveness is important 
because it is key to bringing
people together.  If one does not
forgive and instead, holds a grudge, 
relationships can be torn apart.  This is portrayed many times 
in the media.      

This video portrays revenge 
instead of forgiveness.   

"And about forgiveness
We're both supposed to have exchanged
I'm sorry honey but I'm passing up
Now look this way"

The lead singer talks about there being an
opportunity for forgiveness, but she passes 
it up and would much rather get payback.
This video shows one consequence
of not forgiving and holding a grudge.
In this video, the couple gets into a 
argument and the guy leaves, still angry 
at his girlfriend.  While trying to save a child
in the street, he is hit by a car and passes
away.  The video then shows his girlfriend, 
who is devastated by his death, and she regrets
not making up with him.  This just goes to show
that holding a grudge gets you nowhere.

All of the concepts learned this year, especially these three, are essential to advancing civilization and society.  Forgiveness is asked for by many on death row so they may die in peace, and forgiveness is also vital to obtaining the Reign of God.  All of these are crucial to bringing our world to peace and are important lessons for everyone to learn.  As St. Julie Billiart put it, “Teach them what they need to know for life.”
