business cards & letterhead in business cards... it is okay to have empty corners it is okay NOT to center the layout it is okay to use type smaller than 12pt it is okay to use one large graphic image a standard business card is 3.1x2 inches. templates in Illustrator and InDesign will give you an easy start. Consider 1) readable numbers, 2) the necessity of labels--do you need to say "telephone" or can you do "t" or simply just put the number?, 3) parentheses around area codes are truly unnecessary don't be afraid to use small type or graphic elements don't be afraid to use large type or graphic elements don't be afraid to place items in unusual positions don't be afraid to fill the writing space with an image. so long as the opacity is low enough to put readable text over. while not the clearest scan (sorry!) note the image on the bottom of the letterhead i'm not a fan of the square business card, but intriguing... vertical business card? also note the bottom right image on the letterhead kristin loves this more than is reasonable. awesomeoness of 2-sided business cards vs. increased printing cost. varying backsides for business cards= clever. also, check out that activated white space in the business card.
