Transcript of NDSU Libraries Virtual Tour

Welcome to the NDSU Libraries' Main Library. Main Lobby The Tri-College system allows you to use your BISON ID card to check out materials at both the MSUM and Concordia Libraries. To your left is the Shott Collection which contains popular fiction and non-fiction materials. Down the hall is the InterLibrary Loan desk, this is where you can get books, articles, and other materials not available at the NDSU Libraries. There is no cost for this service. Across from InterLibrary Loan is our media collection. It contains VHS tapes, music CDs, DVDs, and audiobooks. Don't forget to stop by the Coffee House and refuel for studying! At the end of the hall is the reference area. Let's take a look... To your right is the reference collection. It contains specialized encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other reference materials. These materials are not available for check out, but you can use them in the library and photocopy or scan them if needed. We have a scanner, black and white printers, and a color printer that you can use in reference. There are also two photocopiers available on the main floor. Computer clusters are located in reference and on the lower level. Log onto any of these computers using your NDSU username and password. The folios are oversized items located on separate shelves at the south end of reference. Although most of our periodicals are now online, the remaining current print magazines, journals, and newspapers are in the southeast corner behind the reference area. Librarians are here to help you at the reference desk most of the hours the library is open. You can also call us at 231-8886 or instant message us from the library's website. Now, let's take a look upstairs... Most books available for checkout are located on the second floor. They are shelved by subject using the Library of Congress system. The A's begin the northeast corner. Federal government documents from agencies such as the USDA and the Department of Education are in the northwest corner of the second floor. We also collect items published by the State of North Dakota. Theses and dissertations written by NDSU students are in the Thesis Room at the north end of the second floor. Let's take a look at a few other features of the Main Library... The library offers a wide range of comfortable places to study. The Center for Writers, located in the basement of the Main Library, can help you with editing and writing your research papers. They accept appointments and walk-ins (if time permits). The Germans from Russia Heritage Collection is one of our special collections and is located on the main floor of the library. It provides valuable information on the history and culture of Germans from Russia. Locations beyond the Main Library... The NDSU Archives is located across from the Fargodome in the Skills and Technology Training Center. The collections document the history of NDSU and the history of the greater North Dakota community. The Storage Annex is our off-site storage facility. You can request materials that are housed there and pick them up at the circulation desk at the Main Library or any of our branches. The Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library is located downtown in Klai Hall. The Barry Hall Library is also located downtown and contains business, agribusiness, and economics resources. The Chemistry Library is located in Ladd Hall and is only available through key card access. You can request any of the Chemistry materials for pick-up at the Main Library. The Health Sciences Library is located in Sudro Hall. Questions? Stop by the reference desk and we will be happy to help you! ITS offers technology assistance during hours posted on the Help Desk near reference. To your right is the circulation desk. This is where you use your BISON ID card to check out books, DVDs, study rooms, items you request, headphones, and materials instructors have placed on Reserve. We also have smaller branches that contain subject-specific collections.
