Feature
Facebook's upcoming Timeline is going to be extremely helpful for brands in how they differentiate themselves. So far on Facebook, businesses have only been able to put their logos in the small, square profile box. But now with Timeline, PR pros and marketers will have a greater opportunity to showcase their brands. So Coca-Cola, for instance, will be able to show their journey through the decades. There will be so much more to share and more opportunities to have in-depth engagement.
-- Priya Ramesh,
Director of Social Media Strategy for CRT/tanaka, a marketing and PR agency
What are people are saying...

Facebook’s goal is to become the social layer that supports, powers and connects every single piece of the web, no matter who or what it is or where it lives.

-- Ben Parr,
Editor-at-Large of Mashable
With Facebook’s redesign, consumers will be creating a “digital autobiography” in which brands will have to integrate themselves. “First Facebook became the digital ID of everyone, and now it will try to gather our whole life story.”
-- Nir Refuah, Vice President of McCann Digital in Israel

About
Ultimately businesses need to pay attention to....
Ads – As users share more there will be more information available to target for ads. Both keyword based and profile information based.

These changes hint at where Facebook wants to be. They want people to spend even more time on site and when they are off of Facebook, they want there to be a Facebook layer that feeds their activities back to Facebook in the most interesting way possible. And they are doing this better than anyone else. They have the first mover advantage in being a blanket to the internet. So it behooves all businesses to see how they best fit into the Facebook open graph.
