So the question is, should energy drinks be banned?
Background Info
Energy drinks were originally introduced "to help employees 'work hard well into the night' " (Colson).
Ingredients include "the amino acid taurine, sugar, caffeine, and B-complex vitamins" (Colson).
Some energy drinks also contain herbs and green tea.
Against Energy Drinks:
"Higher in calories and carbohydrate" (Sizer, Whitney 384).
According to "medical researchers Chad Reissig, Eric Strain, and Roland Griffiths say there are increasing reports of caffeine intoxication from energy drinks and predict problems with caffeine abuse" (Colson).
Depending on how many ounces are in a bottle, a person should only consume one to two energy drinks a day.
According to Chad J. Reissig et al. "maximum daily consumption not exceed two 8.3 oz cans" (Colson).
Against:
According to Stella Metsovas B.S. " 'Children and teenagers are more so at risk for caffeine overdose and toxicities from consumption of energy drinks' " (Caron).

A specific energy drink called Monster "can present cardiovascular concerns" (Mitchell).

Since caffeine exists in high concentrations, "according to University of Washington," this "primary ingredient...can increase your blood pressure and heart rate" (Mitchell).

Research done at the University of Alabama at Birmingham shows that "guarana, another primary ingredient in Monster Energy Drinks, has three times the concentration of caffeine" (Mitchell).

"Short-term stimulant effects of energy drinks can increase your heart rate, blood pressure, cause insomnia and even heart palpitations" (Mitchell).
Energy Drinks can cause:
"nervousness"
"irritability"
"sleeplessness"
"and occasionally, rapid heat beat" (Colson).
For energy drinks:
Although caffeine can cause dehydration which is a main "concern among athletes," according to Ellen Coleman, "research suggests that caffeine enhances endurance performance" (Colson).
Another benefit is that energy drinks "provide[s] a small but worthwhile improvement during short-term,intense aerobic exercise...and prolonged, high-intensity aerobic exercise" (Colson).
For:
"Caffeine can stimulate the central nervous system, relieving fatigue, improving concentration and increasing alertness" (Nnama).
"Seems to provide a physical boost during endurance sports" and can also contribute to "late-night study sessions" (Sizer, Whitney 401).
Facts:
People who drink energy drinks should realize that they "are not regulated by the FDA and are often high in caffeine and other stimulants" (Sizer, Whitney 400).
Another benefit to energy drinks is that the "ginkgo extracts can help improve your memory and stimulate your thinking progress" (Nnama).

There's nothing wrong with drinking energy drinks but people should only drink it in moderate doses and should be aware of the side effects.
Energy drinks are already expensive so even if they are not banned the prices should be raised on them.
This would encourage people to choose healthier drinks or turn to other ways of getting energy.
Having a balanced diet and daily physical activity are better sources of energy; this should be taught to kids so that they realize the dangers of energy drinks and resist from overdosing.
People should also be aware that drinking too many within a day or two can lead to a possible heart attack and even death.
Parents should do their research into energy drinks before allowing their children to drink it.
