An issue to consider...
Joomla 1.6 is a pretty new version, so:
Many Joomla 1.5 extensions are not supported yet;
Several supported extensions are alpha versions;
Integration with wikis, forums and e-learning platforms
Better extensions are often commercial;
Probably the best extension for integrating Joomla with other platforms....
...but only alpha version available for Joomla 1.6 with a lot of bugs!!
Easy to use and powerful module to show the latest topics of the forums phpBB and vBulletin.

Advantages
- Highly configurable (posts n., forums, date f.);
- Forums supported: phpBB3 and vBulletin3.

Disadvantage
- Languages supported: Spanish and English.

Advantage
- Very powerful for the integration (modules for courses, moodle calendar etc.);

Disadvantages
- Difficult to configure.
- XML-RPC PHP extension is required.

Advantages
- Easy to configure
- Many features available (avatars, screen name, username etc.)

Disadvantage
- Can't connect to protected accounts.

Advantage
- Many features available (languages, fans, stream).

Disadvantage
- API Key is required.

- Not for featured articles.
Integration with photo and video channels (Flickr and YouTube)
HD Webplayer is a Powerful Joomla Video Extension to play HD videos online.

Advantages
- Many supported formats (flv, mp4, 3g2, 3gp, aac, f4b, f4p, f4v, m4a, m4v, mov etc.);
- Local and remote videos (YouTube videos too).

Disadvantages
- Cant' change player color;
- Video gallery only in the commercial version.
HD Webplayer

Photo Gallery that uses a 3d flash animation to automatically display the images in a particular folder or from Flickr.com

Advantages
- Many different views available;
- Highly configurable (gallery width, height and color, Flickr sets and groups).

Disadvantage
- FTP client for uploading local photos is needed.
Conclusions
Joomla 1.6 is ready for Web 2 extensions regarding the most famous social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc.), but it isn't so for more specific goals (forums, e-learning, wikis etc.).
